You have to wonder what it was like for the person who decided on making the first peanut butter and jelly sandwich or for that matter the combining of any two greats.
The mastermind of Michael at GAVOX has decided to play Dr. Frankenstein by combining two style of watches into one. Why not take two great style of watches and merge the greatness into one watch, a pilot watch and a dive watch. That is how the AVIDIVER came to be born.

When you first see and handle the AD you immediately can see and feel the inspiration from both the world of aviation and the diving world. The brushed stainless steel case is refined yet rugged. The two crowns give the AD that compressor diver look. Each crown has its own purpose and both screw down as well. The top crown that is signed with an orange triangle operates the inner bezel triangle which can be used just like a dive watch rotating bezel to mark time of oxygen left, or to mark departures time of a flight. The triangle rotates either direction and it’s a bit tricky to line it up at the 12 o’clock marker. The triangle tends to move when trying to screw the crown back down.

The bottom crown is used to set the time and date as you probably already figured out. The crown guards are integrated into the lugs which always looks really good with case symmetry. The lugs are curved perfectly allowing the AD to sit great on the wrist. The outer brushed stainless steel bezel is fixed which is slightly below the domed sapphire crystal. The screw down exhibition case back allows you to view the Miyota 9015 movement ticking away inside of the AD. Which has a 10~30 seconds per day accuracy rate, 28800 vibrations per hour and has a 42 hour power reserve. A good, dependable movement from a company with some history with watch movements.

The sandwich style dial just screams dive watch to me. But there are hints of aviation as well throughout the dial. Like the hands and the inner chapter ring. The inner chapter ring features the numbers 05-60 which perfectly line up with the indices on the awesome sandwich dials indices. Of course the GAVOX logo underneath the 12 o’clock position is very aviation inspired. The other text on the dial can be found right above the 6 o’clock position on the dial, a cursive Automatic and a diver inspired 20 ATM which is 200 meters/660 feet.

The hands definitely have that aviation feel and look to them. The second hand is just spectacular and that is because the end is the GAVOX wings logo. This little detail makes a HUGE splash with me. I am all about small details like this on a watch. Yes they are subtle, but speak loud statements of precision and vision. The small touch color on the tip of the second hand gives it a nice finished look. The sword shaped hands are coated with lume so viewing in low lighting or dark situations is done with ease.

The strap on the AD is buttery soft. It forms to the wrist like melted rubber, but it’s actually Gavox molded silicone strap which is corrosion resistance to aviation and diver environment. The tip of the long half of the strap has a cut out that holds perfectly onto the second keeper on the small half of the strap. There are also notches on the end of the small half of the strap that assists with holding the keeper in place. It’s very helpful without a doubt. A detail that I really like on this strap. Another detail on the strap is the GAVOX wing logo is incorporated into the strap. See the wrist shot pics below to see what I’m talking about. What GAVOX did on the lugs is they included two different holes on the inside of the lugs. One set allows the silicone strap to fit tight up against the case like solid end links of a bracelet. The other set of holes allow you to put your own strap on like you normally would on the typical watch. This was a thoughtful detail by GAVOX because how many of us like to change the “shoes” on our watches? It would really suck to be limited to just one strap choice on a watch.

I love the brushed finish on this watch. It is very well done and looks great from all angles. I also like that when you rotate the orange triangle and there’s the V outline underneath at the 12 o’clock position is the GAVOX V from their logo. The AVIDIVER is full of awesome little details that all come together to make a great watch. There’s a lot of watch here and coming in at just over $700 makes the AD a pretty good value.

There is a noticeable care and passion that can be found on GAVOX watches. You can notice it very easily which is pretty awesome. I have experienced a lot of watches throughout my years in this industry and out as just a watch fanatic and I can tell when a watch is made just to make money vs. when a watch is made with a clear vision that is full of passion & attention to detail. You can clearly see the passion/vision/attention to detail when you handle the AD.

I woukd definitely recommend this watch for people looking for a dive watch and a pilot watch that are looking for something different than the same old dive watch or that same old pilot watch. The color variations of each dial and corresponding straps are awesome. I can’t pick which one I like best. They all look so good and so different. The black has that touch a dress up look to it, the blue dial has that weekend adventure look and the white dial has that clean no nonsense look.

I want to personally thank Michael and GAVOX for the absolute honor and privilege of allowing me to do this review. I thoroughly enjoyed the AVIDIVER.

Thanks for reading.
